The US Army's lineage of the warrant officer can be traced back to 1896 and specifically to the Headquarters Clerk (later designated the Army Field Clerk).  The officially recognized birthday of the US Army Warrant Officer Corps is 7 July 1918.  At this time, personnel appointed as warrant officers were not commissioned officers, and initially were considered civilian.  It was eventually determined that warrant officers held military status by the Judge Advocate General.

Today Warrant Officer Association Chapters can be found on every active duty installation, as well as in many states and territories (Including Des Moines, IA)

The Warrant Officer Association was chartered to directly represent the interests of Warrant Officers.  The Corps comprises of approximately 14 percent of the Army officer strength, but makes up less than 1 percent of the Army's total strength.

The Hawkeye Chapter began in March 1996, when CW4 Henry Brown, CW4 Billy Rhodes, CW3 Dave Duenas, and CW2 Dave Grimm decided to form a local chapter.  On the 11th, an unofficial meeting was held, and a temporary governing body was elected.  By 8 April, initial membership had reached 21, and a charter was requested.  The Charter was received effective 14 September 1996.

Today the Hawkeye chapter has over 50 members from all Army affiliation's including: Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Active Army, and Retired personnel.

We represent the interests of every Warrant Officer, regardless of their Military branch affiliation.
